“The Good Fight is the one that we fight in the name of our dreams.”
The Pilgrimage recounts the spectacular trials of Paulo Coelho and his mysterious mentor, Petrus, as they journey across Spain in search of a miraculous sword.
The Pilgrimage paved the way to Paulo Coelho's international bestselling novel The Alchemist. In many ways, these two volumes are companions—to truly comprehend one, you must read the other.
The Pilgrimage is a 1987 novel about Paulo Coelho's journey across northern Spain. It is partly an adventure story, partly a self-discovery story. The story begins in 1986, when Coelho is initiated into the order of the regnus agnus Mundi. Although he does not succeed, he is told that he must go on a pilgrimage along Camino de Santiago, where he will find the sword that symbolizes his acceptance into the order. This pilgrimage will help him to understand the essence of truth through the simple things in life. He is accompanied by a guide who goes by the name of Petrus. During the journey, Petrus teaches him meditation exercises and some of the more mundane aspects of Western mystic thought and philosophy. Petrus also teaches Paulo about love and its manifestations: Agape, Philia and Eros.
